Langley Flying School Student Scores exceed National Averages
“I think it represents a lot of hard work and dedication by both students and staff,” says Chief Flying Instructor David Parry in response to Langley Flying School above-average performance of its graduate students. Statistics released earlier this year show Langley Flying School students leading both the Pacific and National region averages in the categories of Private Pilot Written Examination Scores, Private Pilot Flight Test Scores, and Commercial Pilot Written Examination Scores. In the case Commercial Flight Test Scores, Langley Flying School student exceed the national scores only.

“It’s been in the last couple of years that we have seen a group of exceptionally talented and hardworking students come through the system,” says Parry, “and these students have been supported and guided by committed group of veteran staff Flight Instructors like Phil Craig, Naomi Jones, and Rod Giesbrecht—I think the right kind of students appear to have been match with the right kind of instructional staff. Phil Craig has since left to fly with Central Mountain Air, while Naomi Jones and Rod Giesbrecht have moved on to fly with Sumit Air in Yellowknife. “These guys were awesome,” said Parry, “and now it’s time for a new generation of Flight Instructors to leave their mark on Langley Flying School—guys like Nam Vu, Mayank Mittal, and Beda Grunder—it’s going to be an interesting year.”
“We’ve got lots of challenges ahead of us,” said Parry regarding priorities for Langley Flying School in the upcoming year. Parry says he wants to target increasing the flight test scores for his commercial graduates, as well as the time-to-completion for his Private Pilot graduates. “The challenge is for us to mitigate operational safety with our students' First Solo Flights,” says Parry. “While we want to get them in the air on their own as soon as possible, we want everyone to get home safely at the end of the day—this is the great challenge of what we do.”
